Ruth Groome grew up in Moose Jaw and Regina, Saskatchewan, taking piano lessons at a time when the Royal Conservatory’s program was embraced by music teachers across Canada. Her study of music shaped her early life, and it deepened after Ruth enrolled her children for music lessons at the Royal Conservatory building in Toronto in 1977.
Although she never used her musical training professionally, it led — perhaps unexpectedly — to her marriage and two sons, who went on to make music central to their own careers.
