Shop around the Corner: Gold Star Dairy
Judith Scolnik's father and uncle ran the Gold Star Dairy at 794 Dundas St. W. just around the corner from where the family lived at 104 1/2 Palmerston Ave. in Toronto.
Judith loved working in the shop at the front of the dairy, where she learned to slice the smoked salmon thinly and cut a pound of butter from a large block. Judith’s father would deliver the dairy’s products, particularly the cream cheese, to local bakeries. One of the most popular in those days was Health Bread Bakery 630 College St., where Judith’s father was always rewarded with free loaves of bread and bagels.
