The Wedding Photographer Who Founded a Gallery

Lois Broad's wedding photographer had been a neighbour at 194 High Park Ave. He later became famous for the Canadian art gallery he built in Kleinburg.

When Lois Broad got married in 1949, her wedding photographer was none other than Robert McMichael, who went on to create the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg with his wife Signe. His family used to live at 194 High Park Ave., just up the street from where Lois grew up, and he attended Humberside Collegiate. While he was a few years ahead of Lois at school, she remembers him well for his teenage exploits and his entrepreneurial reputation in the neighbourhood.

Lois, who was born in 1927, shared a wealth of information about the neighbourhoods where she had lived in and the people she knew. Sadly, she passed away at the age of 97 in March 2025.
