Thanks To A Grade 6 Teacher
When Johnming Mark came to Canada in the 1960s, his first teacher was Bruce Cook at Parkdale Public School.
Over the years, Bruce would keep in touch by sending Johnming an annual birthday card. Bruce had recognized Johnming’s artistic talent early on in Grade 6, and decades later, after they reconnected over coffee at Yorkdale, he continued his role as mentor and teacher. He introduced Johnming, who was working as an electrical engineer, to various forms of the visual arts, encouraging him on his artistic journey. That encouragement, Johnming says, changed his life.
