From Farm to CNE

Every year, Mary Cupples' family took a bus trip from their farm near Mount Albert, Ontario, to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. It was the highlight of her summer.

The Food Building was the most exciting part for Mary. There, for the first time, she tasted pizza, Tiny Tom doughnuts, corned beef, and other dishes she’d never have a chance to eat on her family’s farm.

But the most memorable moment of all was seeing her grandfather kick up his heels with a roving troupe of square dancers at the CNE. In this video, Mary explains why that sight had such an impact on her.
