Yorkdale's Phantom Theatres
Hidden and inaccessible in the depths of Yorkdale are the original cinemas that welcomed moviegoers when the mall opened in 1964.
At the time, Yorkdale was the largest enclosed mall in the world. Over the years, the shopping centre grew and a new Cineplex opened. Greg Ingham, who worked on a Yorkdale expansion project, remembers seeing the eerie underground space and explains why it’s there.
