Birth of a Scarborough 'burb
In the late 1950s, Karen Black's family moved into a brand new house in a brand new neighbourhood along with 30,000 other residents.
The Scarborough community had popped up almost overnight centred around the intersection of Markham and Lawrence. In those days, the kids and stay-at-home moms walked everywhere; basement rec rooms were de rigueur; and everyone seemed to have a piano. There was one small problem though – the name of her family’s street!!
